One of the key elements which determines the aesthestic outcome of breast reconstruction is symmetry.

Depending on the size and shape of your breast a symmetrisation procedure becomes unavoidable. These procedures can be done at the same time of the breast reconstruction or a few months later. There are 3 different type of procedure to be distinguished: Breast augmentation, breast reduction and breast lift.

Breast Augmentation

By placement of an implant under the breast, an enhancement of volume is achieved matching the reconstructed breast in size. Most commonly a small scar is placed in the breast fold in order to be able to insert the implant? Depending on the size and shape of the breast, the implant is either placed under the breast gland or under the chest muscle.

The London Breast Reconstructive Surgeons only use implants of high quality from the companies Allergan and Mentor.

Breast Reduction

Also known as reduction mammaplasty, breast reduction surgery removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue and skin to achieve a breast size matching the reconstructed breast. There will be scars around the nipple, vertically from the nipple down to the bottom of the breast and depending on the technique used a third scar running along the underside of the breast, just above the fold beneath the breast.

Breast Lift

Commonly referred to as uplift breast surgery or mastopexy raises and firm the breast by removing the excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour. There will be scars around the nipple, vertically from the nipple down to the bottom of the breast and depending on the technique used a third scar running along the underside of the breast, just above the fold beneath the breast.
